Taking a beloved community radio station to every Android device in the region.
Radio Macfast had built a loyal listenership through its campus broadcasts, but its reach was limited by physical proximity to the transmitter. A mobile application would extend that reach indefinitely — to alumni, to the wider community, and to listeners anywhere in the world.
Radio Macfast's community broadcasts served the Macfast College campus and immediate vicinity — a fraction of the audience that cared about the station. Alumni living elsewhere, community members outside the transmission zone, and listeners on mobile devices had no way to tune in.
The technical challenge was delivering a reliable, low-latency audio stream to Android devices across varying connection speeds.
Radio Macfast — delivered by Techius Solutions
Techius built the Radio Macfast Android app with audio streaming performance as the primary engineering constraint. Adaptive bitrate streaming ensured the listening experience degraded gracefully on slower connections rather than cutting out entirely. Background playback allowed listeners to keep Radio Macfast on while using other apps.
The UI was deliberately minimal — tuning in should take one tap, with no complexity obscuring the core experience of listening.

The Radio Macfast app transformed the station from a campus-bound broadcast into a community radio service accessible worldwide. Alumni tuning in from abroad, community members listening on commutes, and students accessing on their phones all became part of an expanded listenership.
The app continues to grow organically through the Macfast alumni network.
